“Spirit of the Frontier”

Reposting this version and deleting the old. I’ve had to rescan it and redo the text because the first pass was pretty shoddy.

This project is in response to an assignment having to do with a “big picture, small picture” sort of story. I decided to begin developing a story that I’ve been working on for a while just for fun.
So this is the beginning of hopefully an ongoing project titled: “Mundi”

Some orchid studies done from observation in my Nature Drawing class. This was a very pretty orchid, it had naturally green petals!

A Valentines Day related project for my Sophomore Illustration courseThe challenge was to make a Valentine without the conventional meanings of love. Which meant no writing love, or hearts, or any of that junk.I decided to do something centered around the way that snail’s mate.
It’s a mix of watercolor and gouache

Another WIP shot of my “That’s Not What I Expected” piece. When we came to class we were given 3 hours to try to ink the entire piece….and I dug my own grave in that respect. Professor was nice enough to grade on a curve and is encouraging me to finish this. Someday!

My first Sequential Art project (and first comic). Assignment was to create a two page sequence based upon a significant memory.

Used a combination of watercolor, white gouache and ink.

Beginning sketches for my very first Sequential Art project! The class is a bit intimidating, but I’m very excited to see what I can learn.

The goal of the project is to create at least a 2 page comic depicting a significant event in your life. I chose a moment this past summer that holds a certain importance to me.

After many years of using Micron liners and being encouraged to switch to actual pens and nibs I decided to go buy a set and some decent ink. I’m slowly falling in love with the line quality of nibs aaaaaaand might end up switching for good. Who knows! But here’s a study I did just to try out the pen and get the hang of using it. Reference used, and didn’t take long at all.
